How to Choose a Miele Canister Vacuum? 5 Important Features to Consider

When it comes to vacuum cleaners, Miele is quite a popular brand. Over the years, they have added new models to their already vast line up of vacuum cleaners. As a result, it can get confusing while shopping for a Miele vacuum. Most buyers don’t know how to choose a Miele canister vacuum for their needs and end up buying a vacuum made for the wrong application. So how do you know which Miele canister vacuum is right for you

The first thing you must do is decide on a Miele canister vacuum series. At the time of writing this guide, there are three series of Miele canister vacuum cleaners. They are the Classic, Compact, and Complete series. The Classic series has the most basic and budget-friendly vacuum cleaner models. The Compact series is best for people who want more power and a compact size. And the Complete series vacuums are bigger and are perfect for people who want the best of the best. In addition to these three, there is also the Miele Blizzard series that consists of bagless canister vacuums.

Below you’ll find the details about each of these series of vacuums offered by Miele. We have listed the benefits and shortcomings of each of these series to help you select the right model for your needs.

Pick a Miele Canister Vacuum Series

The first thing you want to do is pick a series of Miele canister vacuums. Currently, Miele has 3 product lines:

Miele Classic Series

The Classic Series has the most basic type of Miele canister vacuums. It’s considered Miele’s flagship product for homeowners who want a powerful cleaning solution.

All models in this range are lightweight, about 10.2 pounds. And the lowest model costs about $299. The vacuums in this series have a cleaning radius that doesn’t go beyond 29 feet, and are suitable for most applications.

You should buy this model if you have a smaller house and want to get done with the chores quickly. However, they do lack some premium features. They don’t have a sealed system that recycles dust and allergens back into the atmosphere.

And this product line does not even have a HEPA filter, though you can add one. Only one of the vacuum cleaners features a HEPA filter. Additionally, these vacuums can be very loud.

Benefits

  • Highly affordable.
  • Wide cleaning area.
  • Lightweight and easy to handle.

Drawbacks

  • Very loud.
  • Leaks dust into the room.

Miele Compact Series

The Compact series is most suitable for smaller apartments and condos. Its key feature is the smaller size. The vacuums in this series are a good choice when you don’t have a lot of space to clean or anywhere to store your vacuum cleaner.

Miele’s Compact product line typically features a thicker plastic casing, longer cord, and longer wand.

Additionally, Miele’s Compact line runs a lot quieter than the Classic line. It means you can easily operate it around pets. It’s also got a fully sealed filtration system, perfect for keeping the dust inside.

People who don’t want their walls and furniture to get damaged while vacuuming should steer clear of these vacuums. These vacuums have sturdy plastic edges. And as a result, they may scratch your furniture and walls.

What’s more? This type of Miele vacuum does not have a HEPA filter, though you can add one in.

Compared to the Classic series, Compact type models have larger canisters and larger bags. Hence, they’re also good for larger houses that need cleaning.

Benefits

  • Quiet operation.
  • Fully sealed filtration system.
  • Compact design, best for small apartments.

Drawbacks

  • Does not come with a HEPA filter.
  • May damage the walls and furniture.

Miele Complete Series

Finally, we have the Complete C3 models. These vacuum cleaners are the prime cleaners from Miele. They have the highest price point but have the most premium features of all the other product lines.

These canister vacuums have the largest canisters, and hence, are less portable. All of them feature a HEPA filter with a fully sealed filtration system. So, this type is best for people with allergies

Unlike the canister vacuums from the Compact series, these canister vacuum cleaners have rubber padding on the bottom to keep your furniture safe. Additionally, these vacuums have a special storage compartment. It’s used to keep your accessories and attachments right where you need them.

This is the first type of Miele vacuum that has a few push buttons to adjust the setting. Now you can adjust the settings using your foot while standing. The C3 models can cover a wider area, which is complemented by the longer power cord.

But despite being a prime product, three factors may deter you from buying them.

Firstly, they’re quite bulky, not ideal for smaller homes and storage spaces. Secondly, they’re cumbersome. Most models can go as heavy as 11.8 pounds. Thirdly, they’ve got a hefty price tag.

Benefits:

  • Wider coverage.
  • Fully sealed HEPA filtration system.
  • Onboard tools and attachments storage compartment.
  • Push-button interface.
  • Longer power cord.

Drawbacks:

  • Not for small homes.
  • Quite heavy, as heavy as 11.8 pounds.

Miele Blizzard Series

The Blizzard CX1 is Miele’s very first series of bagless canister vacuums. It is very versatile and powerful. It is a good choice for cleaning homes with mixed flooring because it can easily handle both hard and carpeted surfaces.

It uses Vortex Technology to provide you with unparalleled cleaning power. This new technology uses the centrifugal force of the 62-mph airflow generated by the improved PowerLine motor to separate coarse and fine dust soiling. This makes it easier to dispose of the debris that the vacuum cleaner captured and prevents the fine dust from escaping every time you open the dirt container.

This series uses a dirt container rather than a bag. After separating coarse and fine particles, the bigger ones are deposited in the main dust bin. This part has a mesh filter to prevent particles from escaping this chamber. Fine dust is trapped by the GORE CleanStream filter. The air passes through the HEPA AirClean filter before it exits the exhaust port, ensuring that more than 99.9% of all particles like dander, pollen, and even smoke particles are trapped.

The Miele Blizzard CX1 features an automatic shut-off function activated when the unit becomes too hot from use or when you accidentally vacuum any item that gets stuck in the floorhead or wand.

The ergonomic handle makes it easy to maneuver the floorhead. Plus, it has an anti-static conductor feature to prevent any nasty electrical discharges.

The floorheads for the Triflex HX1 are all designed to have bigger inlets to allow it to hug the surfaces better. This prevents any particles from escaping. You can also adjust the suction level to clean all types of floors.

Just like the other Miele canister vacuums, this series offers a generous cleaning reach, with a 33-foot power cord. You can vacuum large areas without switching power outlets. Plus, there is a toe-tap-activated auto cord rewind function, so you don’t have to bend down to gather the cord.

The telescopic wand allows you to extend the reach of your vacuum and also set the best working height so you can handle the vacuum with ease.

How to Choose a Miele Canister Vacuum? What to Consider?

The following features and specifications matter the most while buying a Miele canister. So, it’s important to understand what each one means and how it affects the performance of a Miele vacuum.

Power

Now that you’ve chosen a series, it’s time to decide how much power you want. All of Miele’s canister vacuums use a single 1,200-watt motor. So, there isn’t much to decide here. But this is sufficient for most applications.

However, remember that airflow is not only dictated by power but the filtration system as well. So, consider what type of filtration system your vacuum cleaner has. Most vacuum cleaners will have their airflow listed on their product pages or manuals.

The more the airflow, the better the cleaning ability of the vacuum.

Control Panel

Take a long hard look at the control panel. It’s just a panel, right? Well, if you choose the wrong control panel, operating the vacuum will become a nightmare.

On Miele vacuums, you can find slide bars, foot control buttons, rotary dials, and even fingertip controls. Most users find that the models with foot control and buttons on handles are the easiest to operate. It’s all about how you want to use the vacuum.

Noise Level

Vacuum cleaners can be very loud. While it’s become a characteristic associated with them, that doesn’t mean you can’t find a quieter vacuum.

Miele’s Compact and Complete vacuum series are quite silent and won’t scare away your pets. Miele’s Classic vacuums, however, are very loud and not great around people who are sleeping or pets.

Turbobrush or Powerbrush?

The last thing you want to consider is the type of brush used. Do you want a Turbobrush that uses air to rotate? Or do you want a Powerbrush that uses an electrical motor?

Tubobrushes are perfect for medium and low-pile carpets. But they simply don’t provide enough power as a Powerbrush. Power brushes are highly recommended for people with high-pile carpets or pets in the house.

So, Which Miele Canister Vacuum is Right for You?

Still haven’t figured out how to choose a Miele canister vacuum? Let’s run through the basics again.

Miele canister vacuums come in Classic, Compact, Complete and Blizzard product lines. If you have low-pile carpets or bare floors and need a cost-effective cleaning solution, then consider the Classic series.

If you want a slightly more powerful and compact product, the Compact series is the right option for you. You can go for the Complete series if you are not worried about your budget and want the best Miele canister vacuum.

And the Blizzard series is perfect if you are looking for a bagless vacuum and don’t want to worry about replacing vacuum bags every now and then.
