How to Change Miele Vacuum Bags – Easy to Follow Guide

We all know how annoying it is when we are in middle of cleaning a room and the vacuum bag gets full. It does not matter how badly you want to finish off cleaning the room, you have no choice but to stop and change the bag. But the good news is that, for most of the newer Miele vacuum cleaners it takes less than five minutes to change the dust bag. In this article we will find out how to change Miele vacuum bags with ease.

But before you start, it is a good idea to keep an original Miele vacuum bag that fits your model ready with you. If you do not have the right vacuum bag, you will need to buy a pack since it is not advisable to operate vacuums with full dust bags. It is also not recommended to reuse Miele vacuum bag by emptying its contents into a bin.

You can find the correct type of bag for your Miele vacuum cleaner model by clicking here.

If you do have the replacement vacuum bag with you, changing vacuum bags on a Miele is a short and simple process. Here are the step-by-step instructions on how to change Miele vacuum bags.

Just like with any other electrical appliances, for your safety, always disconnect your vacuum cleaner from its power source before you remove the dust bag.

Step 1: Remove the Old Dust Bag from the Vacuum Cleaner

Before you could change the dust bags, you will first need to remove the existing filled dust bag properly. Miele vacuum bags cannot be removed without opening the dust bag compartment.

They feature a flap that closes automatically once the dust compartment lid is opened. This prevents any collected dust in the bag from escaping.

How to Remove Bag from Miele Vacuum?

  1. If you still have the hose attached to the vacuum cleaner, remove it. It’s not necessary to remove the hose but doing so will make things easier for you. Detaching the hose is simple! All you must do is press both the release buttons at the side of the hose connector and pull it away from the unit.
  2. Then find the release catch for the dust compartment lid and pull it upwards to open the lid. Ideally, the lid should be opened as far it goes for better access to the dust compartment.
  3. Once the lid is open, pull the bag out firmly from the dust bag holder by using the grip on the collar. Keep the used bag aside for disposal for now.

Make sure you have not pulled out the dust bag holder along with the bag instead!

If the dust bag holder on your Miele vacuum is damaged or lost, you will need to buy a new one to finish installing the new dust bag. Also note that you may need to buy torsion spring for the holder depending on your machine model.

Which Miele Vacuum Cleaner Dust Bag Holder Should You Get?

The holder is what keeps the dust bag tightly in place to ensure the air clean system works properly. Any damage to this holder will affect the sealing mechanism between the filter bag and the hose and will result in all the dust and debris escaping out into the air and dust compartment.

This video shows Mark explaining which type of bag will fit your Miele.

Refer the following table to find the correct dust bag holder for your model.

How to Fit Miele Dust Bag Holder?

Here are a couple of great videos explaining how to fit Miele dust bag holder in case you need to replace it before you change the dust bag.

Step 2: Insert the Replacement Bag into the Dust Bag Holder

Once the old vacuum bag is removed properly, it’s time to insert the new one. The above table also lists different Miele vacuum cleaner models so that you can match it with an original bag that perfectly fits into its compartment.

How to Change Miele Vacuum Bags?

  1. Take the new bag out of the box. Do not unfold it right away so that it is easier to handle.
  2. On the new bag you will notice two arrows. Hold the bag so that these arrows match the direction of arrows on the dust bag holder.
  3. Insert the bag into the bag holder all the way till you hear a click.
  4. Close the dust compartment lid making sure the bag does not get caught up in it.
  5. Attach the hose back to the unit and you are ready to go!

You can now turn on your Miele vacuum cleaner and resume cleaning.

Whenever you change to a new bag, be sure to inspect the seal of the new bag before use, or you will risk dust escaping from the machine into your home.

Dispose the Old Dust Bag Properly

Once you have changed your vacuum bag and are ready to start cleaning, remember that the old dust bag needs to be disposed properly.

You do not want it lying around in your house or garage. It can cause harm to children, pets, and yourself if you accidentally step on it or get your fingers caught up in it.

How Often to Change Miele Vacuum Bag?

The frequency of changing Miele vacuum bag depends on a few different factors.

The first factor is how frequently you use the vacuum to clean your space. The higher the frequency, the more often you will need to change bags.

The second factor is how big a space you need to clean. The bigger the area, the more dirt and debris will fill up your vacuum bag. Hence, more frequent bag change.

Having pets at home that shed a lot of hair or kids who like playing with mud, dirt, and sand, are also a deciding factor on how often you need to change the vacuum bag on your Miele. Generally, the more traffic in an area, the more frequently the bags need to be changed.

The last important factor that determines how often Miele Filterbag needs to be changed, is what you vacuum up with your unit. The bags are designed to collect regular household dust. But if the vacuum cleaner is used to clean up fine dust, like from a construction site for example, the pores of the FilterBag will get blocked very quickly. So irrespective of how full the bag is, you will still need to change it!

How to Know When Miele Vacuum Bag is Full?

These bags come with a marker to help you know when it’s time to replace the bag. When this marker in the FiterBag change indicator turns red, change the bag.

Sudden loss in suction power of the vacuum cleaner can be another sign that the vacuum bag is full. Again, there can be exceptions to it like the one mentioned above.

Conclusion

Changing the vacuum bag in a Miele is not an overly complicated task. It takes only a short amount of time, and you are good to go. You can do it yourself if you have the correct type of bag for your model and there is no problem with the bag holder.
